When I rode the Underground with the Pope
Jorge Bergoglio from Buenos Aires
AN APPROACHABLE POPE
»Now you've got everything for the book. l think you’re done with it now…« – no, these aren’t the praising words of an editor, these are the words the Pope spoke to the author. Erika Rosenberg has met Pope Francis several times, firstly when he was still the Archbishop of Buenos Aires. Apart from Jorge Mario Bergoglio’s commitment to the poor and the oppressed, being a Jew she was most fascinated by his dedication towards interreligious dialogue. That’s why she set out for South America as well as Rome and the Vatican to talk to family members, friends, companions, and colleagues. Interwoven with encounters and extensive background information they form a very personal portrait of this highly unusual man heading the Holy See.
Erika Rosenberg, born in Buenos Aires in 1951, is a journalist and author and has worked as a teacher at the Goethe Institute, at the Argentinian Department of Foreign Affairs, and at the Catholic University of Buenos Aires. She is a translator and interpreter. In 2014, she was awarded the Order of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany.
