The great medieval pilgrimage is back with a vengeance, putting even popular Mediterranean beach resorts in the shade:

the Way of St. James, generally known as the Camino de Santiago – almost 800 kilometres from the border between France and Spain to the destination, Santiago. A unique art and nature trail, the pilgrims’ path stretches throughout northernmost Spain, from the Pyrenees all the way to Galicia. The Camino de Santiago is one vast open air museum: chapels and churches stud the hillsides like jewels, monasteries, cathedrals and fortresses boast a veritable treasure trove of art history.

Photographer Björn Göttlicher studied photography and has been living in Spain for many years; he works as an architectural photographer and photo journalist for magazines all over the world. His work is featured in the terra magica photo books Portugal, Brazil, Spain, Barcelona, United Arab Emirates, and Lisbon.
