Travel journalist and photographer Fred Lange introduces the traditional methods of salt production and writes about special people in extraordinary places in the world's major salt mining regions – from the salt desert in Bolivia to Hallstadt and the salt gardens on the coasts of the atlantic. He traveled along ancient caravan routes to the remotests salt oases of the Sahara desert and all the way to the salt lakes right in the heart of Asia.

Fred Lange was born in 1953 and studied geography and politics. Fascinated by the cultures and religions of Asia, since 1973 time and again his travels have taken him to China and Tibet as well as to India, New Zealand and other countries. He captures his impressions on film for presentation in photographic exhibitions, slide shows, reports, calendars ("Silk Road") and books ("Secret Caravan Routes in the Heart of Asia"). The author lives in Hamburg.
