Fascination space travel: the definitive book on Moon and Mars exploration
When on 20 July 1969 the first human being stepped onto the Moon, the world was watching with bated breath. At the same time, the astronautics scientist Jesco von Puttkamer was working as an
engineer in the NASA research team led by Wernher von Braun preparing the Apollo 11 space mission, a fact which puts him in an excellent position to give us an inside account of this historic event, describing the first Moon landing in great detail without omitting anything. In the second part of the book, he describes the space missions following Apollo 11, recounts the fantastic story of the international space station ISS, and finishes by giving us an outlook on the most ambitious project of future space travel yet – the exploration of Mars.
Prof. Jesco von Puttkamer, born 1933, works for NASA and has been involved in realising the international space station ISS, and, since 2004, the Moon- Mars Programme. He has received numerous awards for his achievements, among others for his participation in developing the Saturn V Moon rocket and the Apollo and Skylab Programmes.
