The affluence principles not only detail the diverse moral concepts that exist in the different regions of the world, but also show how these might be reconciled.
What binds society together are the values and a canon of moral concepts which have evolved over time. The driving force behind this development is, and always has been, the economic status of the people. People in affluent societies are subject to a different value-system from people in poor countries. Why this is the case and the principles upon which it is based is explained by the »Affluence Principles« set out in this book.
Peter Neuling, born in 1934 in Hamburg, studied political economy and worked in a senior position in PR and ministry of agriculture. He takes his inspiration from Seymour Lipset and Samuel Huntington, who recognised the connections between standards of living and democracy (third principle of affluence).
