Hitler’s women: new sources, unusual angles, surprising details

They were in Hitler’s thrall … Ordinary women, artists and elegant society ladies – they all fell under his spell. Drawing on hitherto unknown material and interviews with the descendants, Martha Schad portrays remarkable women of the Third Reich. For example, Mussolini’s daughter Edda Ciano and Gerdy Troost, the only women allowed to visit Hitler at his headquarters, known as »the Wolf’s Lair«, Elsa Bruckmann and Helene Bechstein, who both desperately wanted to make Hitler more acceptable in polite society, and Nietzsche’s sister Elisabeth who fuelled the Nazi’s cult following of Nietzsche with forged documents. Dr. Martha Schad, born in 1939, studied history of art and history, and has written numerous books on the subject. Previous publications with LangenMüller and Herbig include Empress Elisabeth and Her Daughters and God’s Mighty Servant. She has been awarded numerous prizes and awards, most recently the Austrian Order of Merit for Science and Art and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
