Albrecht Dürer, a fanatical secret society, and a corrupt pharmaceutical company – a young police lady cop faces her toughest case to date.

A patron of the arts is found with his throat slashed, clutching a poem by Bauderlaire. But that’s just the beginning. A series of mysterious murders in Cologne lead the headstrong young police inspector Elise Brandt to the inscrutable but charismatic insurance agent St. Cyr. The Frenchman has got hold of a mysterious letter written by Albrecht Dürer, which seems to bring death to whoever owns it. Threatened by powerful adversaries, Elise and St. Cyr start a risky game of cat-and-mouse and come up against an ancient secret society known as „Knights of the Apocalypse”. Just as they think they’re about to solve the case, they realize that they have overlooked a crucial aspect. But by then it’s almost too late …

Michael Reich, born in 1966, is a bookseller and photographer. A resident of Essen, he was already very familiar with Paris and Cologne when he chose them as settings for this novel, and spent a lot of time in both cities doing in-depth research.
