The heroes, be they small or grown-up, of Barbara’s Noack’s stories have to master situations that are commonplace, sometimes adventurous, and often extremely unusual. The author humorously brings to life the atmosphere of a child’s world, as well as capturing that of the adults in an ironic but accurate fashion – it is with good reason that she has, for many decades, been ranked amongst the most popular and successful German writers. Her stories for children, full of intelligence and empathy,
have moved and enchanted millions of readers: Noack’s Ark is a selection to introduce or re-acquaint readers with the very best of them.
Born in Berlin in 1924, Barbara Noack’s breakthrough came in 1955 with the success of her second novel The Zurich Engagement. This was followed by many more novels and short story collections, all of which were bestsellers, and writing for TV, including the popular TV series Bastian and Three Is One Too Many. Now living on Lake Starnberg near Munich, the author was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic in 1999.
