A remarkable analysis of her path through life and the events that shaped the first half of the 20th Century.

As a young woman she broke free from the constraints and comforts of her bourgeois existence and, following the love of her life, a sculptor, shared the arduous path of an artist. Henceforth, she led a wild and not always happy life as a journalist and the mother of four children – deeply affected by the era of rising National Socialism. In her autobiography she takes a stand on the  contradictory ideas which a whole generation identified with and which, in the end, also had a devastating impact upon her own life.

Gertrud Fussenegger, born in 1921 in Pilsen, Western Bohemia, studied history, art history and philosophy, and today divides her time between Linz and Hall (Tyrol). She made a name for herself with her novels on social themes and is the recipient of numerous awards. In 2006 »The Magic Castle« was published, a scenic fairy tale after the Brothers Grimm with illustrations by Ricarda Dietz.
