America's lost soul

He began his career at the side of James Dean and captured the spirit of an entire generation in »Easy Rider«. He was the star of New Hollywood and the rebel next to Jack Nicholson. In later years, he lent a face to America's dark side in »Blue Velvet«. When Dennis Hopper died in May 2010, he left behind an impressive artistic oeuvre. Not only a prominent director and actor, Hopper was also a distinguished photographer, painter and art collector. Indeed his whole life was a work of art – unconventional, eccentric and mysterious. Rüdiger Suchsland describes a story of constant setbacks and fresh starts. Drawing on interviews with Dennis Hopper, his son Henry, as well as his wives and  companions, he delineates this talented individual’s multifaceted work, providing intriguing insights into one of the most fascinating artistic personalities of our time.
