An intimate biography marking the centenary of the record breaking racing driver’s birth. Featuring over 100 photographs and documents, many published here for the first time.

Bernd Rosemeyer was the bestknown and most popular racing driver of the 1930s. A member of Auto Union racing team, he scored several Grand Prix victories, breaking record after record, his daring driving style winning him adoring audiences in their millions. When he married the young flying ace Elly Beinhorn, the „fastest couple in the world” became Germany’s dream husband-and-wife team. But their happiness was short-lived: only two months after the birth of their son, Rosemeyer died in an attempt on the world speed record. Elly Beinhorn’s memoirs are a poignant personal testament to her husband’s memory. The book includes an afterword by Professor Bernd Rosemeyer on the latest research into the sequence of events that led to his father’s death.

Elly Beinhorn
(1907–2007), one of the first women to be awarded a pilot’s licence, circumnavigated the world in a solo flight in 1932. Her achievements earned her many prizes, including the Fist Class Order of Merit of the Republic of Germany. Following her extraordinary career as an aviatrix, she published several books as well as writing radio plays. The new edition of her memoirs „Solo Flight”, published to celebrate her centenary on May 2007, became a bestseller.
